Course Description

Therapists working with content creators have many factors to consider when it comes to the particularly unique influences that this occupation has on a person’s mental health. This workshop explores how content creation, streaming, and parasocial relationships affect the mental health and worldview of creators in ways that are both similar and different to other types of performers. 

Learning objectives: Participants in this course will be able to:

  1. Analyze how the platform that a creator uses changes their interactions with their social audience
  2. Evaluate how client identity and expression is affected by “social capital”
  3. Identify safety mechanisms that content creator clients can use to help improve their social and mental health

Curt Widhalm is in private practice in the Los Angeles area. Katie Vernoy is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from California State University, Fullerton and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Theater from Occidental College in Los Angeles, California.
